3/17/09:

Found out that Barker Fire Co was recently recognized on the Discovery Channel's show "Weather Rampage." Discovery Channel interviewed Chief Randy Hildebrant, EMT Lori Hildebrant, and Patient William Hall last month regarding a lightning strike that occured at the K&K Food Store in the Village of Barker back in Fall of 2008. This show aired on Sunday, March 1st, 2009 on the Discovery Channel. Well done all as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity!!!

3/13/09:

Have just been informed that the 2009 Spring Training Schedule will be released in the very near future. So keep an eye to the County's website for the upcoming schedule as the classes are suspected to fill quickly.

03/30/09:

HAZ-MAT:
At approximately 5AM South Lockport was dispatched to the 5900 block of South Transit Rd for reported MVA with gasoline spill. Upon arrival of command it was reported to be a MVA involving 2 tractor trailers with no injuries but approximately 75 gallons of diesel fuel on the road and HAZ-MAT team was requested also Rapids for traffic control. Incident command was terminated at approximately 9AM when road was re-opened. Apparatus on scne: South Lockport, HAZ-MAT 1 and 2, 19M6, 32-8, NCSD, and ENCON.

03/25/2009:

House Fire:
At 7:36AM the City of North Tonawanda Fire Dept. was dispatched to 396 Schenck St. for a report of a kitchen fire. Engine 4 arrived on scene reporting a working fire with possible people trapped. Car 10 arrived and reported a 2 1/2 story frame dual occupancy building fully engulfed through out and all companies would be working, A-4 established Schenck St. command and reported all occupants out of building and accounted for, also requested and additional engine to the scene and for mutual aid companies to assist with fill-in. City of Tonawanda was dispatched to Engine 4 quarters and Adams was dispatched to Fire Headquarters. The building occupants were transported to DeGraff Memorial Hospital to be evaluated, 1 firefighter was also transported to DeGraff Memorial for minor injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but estimated damage is $200,000. Apparatus on scene: NTFD E4, E6, E7, R1, T1, C1, C10, TFD, 1E2, and NTPD.

3/24/09:

Large Field Fire:
At approximately 1515hrs Pekin firefighters were dispatched to a large field fire in the are of Black Nose Springs Rd and Lower Mountain Rd (fire reported to be visible from a distant) approximately 20' off road. Approximately 30 minutes into incident Ransomville was requested for their Grass Truck to assist with operations. Unknown extent of damage or cause. Apparatus on scene: 17E1, 17M6, and 18M6.

3/22/09:

Search:
Around midnight 18M7B requested that Ransomville be dispatched to assist NCSD in search for missing Heritage Manor resident. Resident was last seen earlier around 10:00 a.m. 3 search teams assembled to search surrounding areas near Heritage Manor within the hamlet of Ransomville. At same time Ransomville had EMS call at Heritage Manor for chest pains. Patient transported to Hospital with Upper Mountain ALS. Resident was found 2 hours later in Niagara Falls and search was called off by 18M7B. Apparatus used: 18R9, 18R9A, 18M3, NCSD.

3/19/09:

House Fire:
Passersby spotted smoke coming from the roof of a house at 3636 Day Road at approximately 0945 this morning. Wright's Corners was dispatched and 30M7B transmitted the call of a working fire at 0948. Miller Hose was called to the scene. Upon initial search of the residence, Wright's Corners firefighters found and rescued two dogs. Cambria 4R9 was placed on standby in quarters to cover. No injuries reported. Cause under investigation. Apparatus on scene: 30E1, 30E2, 30R9, 11E2, 11M3, 6E2, 32M1, R/M 586, NCSD. 3/16/09:

Motorcycle Accident:
Around 1500hrs South Lockport was disptached to a report of motorcyclist struck by a vehicle at the intersection of South Transit Rd. at Robinson Rd. Upon arrival of a member responding units were notified that it was in front of Johnson's Country Store on Robinson Rd. and that Rural Metro was unable. 23R9 called enroute Level 3 and was advised by command that patient was having difficulty moving and Mercy Flight was requested to land at the Town of Lockport Water Department on Robinson Rd. where Rapids established the LZ. Exact cause and extent of injuries are unknown. Patient was transported to ECMC via Mercy Flight 1. Apparatus on scene: 23R9, 19E2, 19M10, and NCSD.

3/12/09:

Garage Fire:
Miller Hose Fire Co. responded to a garage fire at 3500 Coomer Rd. Home owner was doing some mechanical work on his SUV in garage when it started on fire, he tried to removed it from garage but was unsuccessful. He unfortunately sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns and was transported to ECMC by 11R9. The garage was a total loss and numerous tools and equipment were damaged in the fire. Miller Hose was assisted by Olcott and Wrights Corners. Also, the Niagara County Fire Investigation Team was called in.

3/10/09:

Trailer Fire:
Niagara Active was dispatched to a Trailer Fire at 673 B St in Cayuga Village. Bergholz, Frontier, and Upper Mountain RIT team were also requested. Cause is unknown at this time. Apparatus on scene: 12E2, 12E5, 12M10, 3E5, 5E4, 26A8, R/M 586, TONPD, NCSD, and Niagara County Fire Investigators.

3/3/09:

Bus Accident:
A Niagara Wheatfield School District bus was following too closely and struck a vehicle on Saunders Settlement Rd at Bridgeman Rd around 2:30PM. Sanborn and Tri-Community were dispatched initially. Upon arrival of command Tri-Commuity Unit 2, Unit 3, Lewiston #2, Upper Mountain's, and Rural Metro's ambulances were all requested to the scene. Fire Police was also requested by Lewiston #2. No patient was seriously injured. The SMART Team was requested due to amount of patients. Un-Injured patients were transported to the Sanborn Fire Hall for staging until parent's could pick up the children. Patients were transported to either EMSTAR or ER One. Shawnee and Lewiston #1 were placed on stand-by due to the amount of ambulances out. Apparatus on Scene: 21E1, 21M4, 21R5, Tri-Community Unit 1, 2, 3, and Medic 5, 8R9, 8M10, 26R9, 26R9A, 26M1, Rural Metro, LPD, NYSP, NCSD, SMART Team, 32-2, and Car 32-7.

3/1/09:

Garage Fire:
At approximately 12PM Niagara Active firefighters were alerted to a garage fire at 3206 Portland St. Upon arrival of 12M7A garage was fully engulfed and Lewiston #2 and Upper Mountain R.I.T. were requested. Frontier was then placed on stand-by at Niagara Active's hall. Exact cause and extent of damage is unknown at this time. Apparatus on scene: 12E1, 12E2, 12A8, 12M10, 8E1, 26A8, Car 32-1, Origin and Cause Investigators, and Town of Niagara PD.
